The Bangkok Gems and Jewellery show takes place in March and September each year and is one of the most important trade showcases for wholesale silver jewellery in the world. Many truly first class exhibitors exhibit their latest designs including silver rings, pendants, earrings, bangles and bracelets. So what were the designs trends at the September 2009 event?

Virtually all exhibitors are really focused on supplying large volume buyers that must place orders for over 50 to 100 plus pieces per design.

Therefore it is not really such a good show for smaller retailers looking to buy just a few items of a particular design. There were some exhibitors offering wholesale silver rings, pendants, earrings and other jewellery from stock but we wholesale ring found very little that was new or exciting. And in fact we found many such exhibitors were using the show as a vehicle to sell old stock.

Every year wholesale silver jewellery seems to take up a larger proportion of the floor space at the show. However, this was the forth show in a row where it was very obvious that visitor numbers had fallen on previous years and perhaps not surprisingly many exhibitors that we spoke to were resigned to poor sales with many not expecting significant improvement until the 2nd half of 2010.

Trends we saw at the show:

There were plenty of new designs but most exhibitors were sticking to tried and tested design concepts so we were unable to identify a new design or fashion trend.

Many new designs were plain silver jewellery especially plain silver rings with Cubic Zirconia especially clear CZ stones and to some extent black CZ stones which remain popular with Western buyers.

The move to light weight silver jewelery has continued with more lightweight jewellery designs. We saw very few new heavy or chunky types of necklaces and bracelets.

Laser or burnished finish plain silver jewellery have increased in popularity over the past 12 months.

There has been a fall in the numbers of both new and existing designs using Coral, Mother of Pearl and other types of shells.

Wholesale silver jewellery with Cubic Zirconia, Black Onyx, Spinel, Garnet, Emeralds, Amethyst and Marcasite remain good sellers.

Consultants – How Companies View Them

For many of you who have been successful in business either alone or within the infrastructure of a company, you’ve undoubtedly either been a consultant or had the need to hire one. Here are some tips about what makes good consultants (or successful ones) and what bad consultants lack (or do wrongfully).

I’d like to start by saying that consultants can be very important and a tremendous value-add to any company. Most often, they are hired by companies to bring expertise, knowledge, strategic insight or tactical skills that don’t exist previously. Sometimes, they are purposely hired not to be an agent of change per se, best immigration consultant but an agent of growth. Some consultants are successful; others become warts. Good consultants can be invaluable (and if you’re a good consultant, it can be a very fulfilling career path).

Here are some do’s and dont’s for consultants looking to be hired by companies as agents of growth. I hope they are helpful both to consultants (and the companies hiring them, because consultants can play a very important part in driving new business growth).

1) Don’t act like you’re smarter than everyone.

Nine times out of ten, you’re not. Even if you as the consultant think you’re smarter and have solutions that people at the company aren’t smart enough to have already thought of, really, that’s probably unlikely. Sometimes, your hiring is because of resources and to be more of a tactician. Other times, it is more strategic. Either way, the folks at a company live day-in and day-out within the industry they’ve chosen. That is not to say you won’t end up feeling smarter – if you’re successful – but don’t treat it like a foregone conclusion from the start.

2) Don’t act like you’re there to run the place or any one department.

Nine times out of ten, you’re not. The importance of collaboration is key. If people think you’re a “new sheriff in town”, you’ll likely stumble fantastically. That example is a bit dramatic, but consultants often need to check egos at the door and immerse themselves in the company, just as a middle manager would, to start with. This can be tricky. You, as a consultant, have a job to do. Just like every other employee at the company. Human nature resists change, and humans working at companies are no different. However, they don’t resist growth. People like growth. Take the time to explain to people why the changes that MAY occur could result in growth, and how individually, they might benefit or have their jobs become easier or help the company succeed. In other words, sell the dream – and deliver substance.

4) Do get to know the people in the organization.

And I mean all of them, top to bottom. Even if the executive team likes you, or you have undying support in a certain area of the company, there is a 100% likelihood you will come into contact with many other people in other departments. You will need everyone’s help in order to do your job right, and to “fit” in the organization and particularly into an organization’s culture. Disrupting the culture is a no-no unless its necessary for growth.

5) Do try and have a pretty squeaky clean history and well-respected record of success.

The presence of a consultant requires in-house “selling” to be done to the rest of the organization. And hopefully, if successful, will also require external marketing and PR for whatever initiative the consultant is hired for – which the company will undoubtedly want to talk about publicly. In the digital age, it’s incredibly easy to find out a consultant’s expertise and successes and failures. A good journalist will find out who is behind such a successful venture that the company is so eager to talk about. The worst thing to happen would be if the consultant severely lacked credibility in any way – which would make the consultant and the company look bad.

There Any Grocery Stores That Carry Nutrisystem Foods

There Are Bloggers, Reviewers, And Advertisers, But There Is One Real Source:  As you’ve probably guessed by now, the only place to buy Nutrisystem is from the company itself. I often have people ask me things like “if you can’t buy Nutrisystem every where, then why do I see it on tons of websites and in magazines?”  Well, mostly because sometimes the company pays these folks to run their ads, but also because there are web sites that review diets or offer coupons and other such things.  However, when you click on the links or coupons on these sites, you will be sent to the company’s site.  You will be given the promised discount, but ultimately you will buy the product from the company itself.  There really isn’t a middle man when you actually place your order.  In other words, the company allows some third parties to offer discounts and such, but when you actually place an order, you are dealing with the manufacturer itself.

Occasionally, I get emails from folks who ask me for a “list of grocery stores that carry Nutrisystem products.”  Sometimes, I have people ask me which aisle in the grocery store that they should be looking for the Nutrisystem foods, as they’ve tried the shake aisle but only found slim fast.  And, many have tried the frozen food aisle and only found the ones that are very high in sodium like lean cuisine.  Occasionally, someone will think to check the body building aisle for the protein bars, but these folks come up empty too.  I’ve had people go so far as to check out the health food stores and nutrition centers, but there’s no dice there either.  russian grocery I once had a coworker bring in the phone book and ask me to help her find the Nutrisystem clinics.  There are very few of those, and none are in our town. (She had this diet confused with Jenny Craig, apparently.)  The truth is, there is really only one place where you can consistently buy Nutrisystem products.  I’ll tell you where that is (and why it’s cheaper than most stores) in the following article.

Many people ask me why they chose to do it this way.  Wouldn’t they want their products to be in stores and easily accessible?  Maybe, but think about it.  There are over 170 food choices.  And many of those have different flavors available which makes this actually much more items that we are talking about.  There aren’t a lot of stores that would be willing or able to devote this kind of space to the product.

Is Buying Nutrisystem Online More Expensive Than Buying Grocery Store Diet Foods?:  Often when I ask people why they are so disappointed that these products aren’t available in stores, they tell me that they think it would be cheaper if they had this option.  In short, they are hoping to find grocery store products that are as low in calories / carbs and as high in protein / fiber as this diet’s options are, but for a cheaper price.  This is a tall order, to say the least.  Take a look at any standard frozen or grocery store diet foods like lean cuisine or smart ones.  These meals are absolutely loaded with sodium.  And many are not very low in carbohydrates.  This is essential to your success because the way that this diet works is by making your body burn it’s own fat since it can no longer burn carbs (this is called ketosis.)

And, are you really saving money with by hitting the discount stores? Well, let’s see. The standard monthly package for this diet is about $10 per day with no coupons and about $8 per day with coupons.  This includes enough food for 5 meals (generally three main meals and snacks / desserts.  And the new flex plan is very cheap at only $230.)  Again, let’s take a look at one of those lean cuisine meals. They run around $3.00 and up with tax per meal.  So for 3 of these meals, you’d be out at least $9 and you are still short two meals.  Many people are surprised to learn this, but you really aren’t saving any money by hitting the grocery store. Often, you’ll not only spend more, but you’re often getting foods that have too much sodium, calories and carbs.
